A fourth-year engineering student who fatally knocked down a junior student has surrendered to the police here, police said on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Gurudin, who is heading the probe, told the media that Baiju was forced to surrender late Saturday night.
Baiju was driving a jeep that knocked down his junior, 21-year-old Thasni Basheer.
"Police are going ahead with the investigation. The other accused would also be arrested," said Gurudin.
Basheer was hit by a jeep carrying students engaged in Onam celebrations on Wednesday on the College of Engineering campus here. She passed away on Thursday.
When Baiju heard that his parents had been called to the police station, he surrendered past Saturday midnight.
The college has suspended 12 students in connection with the death.
Meanwhile, a meeting to be chaired by Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb has been called on Tuesday to set guidelines on campus celebrations in the state.
