Water level in 91 reservoirs falls to 91.84 bn cubic metres

In the wake of deficit monsoon rains, water storage in India's 91 reservoirs has fallen to 91.84 billion cubic metres (bcm), the government said on Friday.

"This storage is 87 percent of the storage of the corresponding period of last year and 88 percent of storage of average of the last 10 years," the water resources ministry said in a release.

The current water storage position stands at 58 percent of the reservoirs' total capacity of 157.799 bcm, it added.

According to meteorological department data, the monsoon shortfall has widened to 10 percent across the country.

States having lesser storage than last year's corresponding period are Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
