With Mullaperiyar dam the focus of heated debate between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, politicians from both states are trying hard to support the respective causes. So, Kerala politicians are dutifully taking turns to participate in the dharnas and hunger strikes taking place in the areas that are likely to get washed away if the dam breaks. Observing this, a well-known Christian spiritual leader in Kerala quipped that it’s hard to believe that the dam has any safety issues when so many politicians dare to conduct dharnas right under the lower reaches of the dam.
