Knowledge gap

Recently, mandarins in North Block received an unusual request from one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advisors. Could anyone explain to the PM how a weak rupee affected Indian exports? Considering that this is an Economics 101 subject, it is surely worrying that there was no one within the PM's office or his Council of Ministers who could explain this very basic issue to the country's chief executive.
