Letters: Right to be heard

Timothy Egan makes a valid point that right-wing views also need to be accommodated in the national conscience of a country, provided these are based on argument, reason, civil laws and not on religious rhetoric (“A madman and his manifesto,” July 30). Glenn close and Pat Buchnan may be brazen about it but the tongue-in-cheek condemnation of the Norway slaughter by prominent anti-immigrant groups, political parties in the US and Europe indicates that the Leftist idea of multiculturalism is not acceptable to everyone. The idea of altruism cannot be stretched to indiscriminately welcome immigrants, especially in times of economic distress when there is not enough to provide for one’s own people.
