According to media reports, the Cabinet has cleared the name of P K Malhotra for the post of legislative secretary in the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. Malhotra is currently a member of the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT), which hears appeals against the orders of the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). Malhotra, reportedly, belongs to the cadre of the Indian Legal Service (ILS), which was created in 1957 to staff the law ministry and is staffed mainly with lawyers. His profile on the SAT website identifies him as belonging to the ILS cadre.
