Opposition BJP in Bihar today criticised Nitish Kumar government for not implementing the beneficial Prime Minister Crop Insurance scheme, leaving the farmers at a loss.

In the state Legislative Council, BJP MLC Rajneesh Kumar had given adjournment notice on the issue which was rejected by Chairman Awdesh Narayan Singh.

Following this, the BJP members trooped into the Well of the House and raised anti-government slogans, forcing the chair to adjourn the House till lunch break.

Later, leader of opposition in Legislative Council, Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters that the Nitish Kumar government was not implementing "Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna" because the scheme is in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi hence the credit for it would go to the PM.

He said another reason for non-implementation of the crop insurance scheme could be loss of revenue to the state already burdened after the ban on sale of liquor.

Sushil Modi said that only 14 days are left to take benefits of the Central government's crop insurance policy and the Bihar government has so far not even floated tender for selecting the Insurance company leaving the farmers of the state at a loss.

He alleged that the state government has failed to distribute Rs 761.96 crore of the financial year 2014-15 under National Agriculture Insurance scheme.
