Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has roped in former Congress member of Legislative Assembly Ranjit Rawat as his industrial adviser as part of a major bureaucratic shake-up on Tuesday night.

Rawat is considered to be one of the most trusted lieutenants of the chief minister.

The move came months after parliamentary minister Indira Hridayesh, who is considered to be no 2 in the cabinet, was given additional responsibility of the industrial development portfolio.

Sources said Rawat has been assigned the job of the chief minister's industrial adviser to keep a close watch on the industrial development department since Hridayesh was once considered to be an N D Tiwari loyalist.

Among other new appointments, Om Prakash is the new principal secretary to the chief minister. Prakash would replace S S Sandhu, who has moved to the centre.

R K Sadhanshu has been given the technical education department, which was being held by additional chief secretary Rakesh Sharma. Irrigation and flood control departments have been given to principal secretary M H Khan in addition to other departments which he is heading.

The excise department has been given Mohd Shahid who is the secretary to the chief minister.

P S Jangpangi has been made new secretary of the social welfare department.

Manjul Joshi is going to be new secretary youth welfare and sports in place of Ajay Pradoyat, whose deputation period in the state government has come to an end.
