12 injured in clash between Asaram followers and villagers

At least 12 persons were injured and several vehicles damaged during a clash between a group of followers of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and villagers in Rajsamand district in Rajasthan today.

Police said that Asaram Bapu's followers, who had come to hold a meeting and distribute blankets among residents of Khardiya village, 8 kms from Rajsamand, faced opposition from villagers leading to an altercation.

Following the altercation, both sides indulged in stone pelting in which at least 12 persons were injured and several vehicles damaged, police said.

A bus was also set on fire, police said.

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Rajsamand district headquarters, they said.
 

Both sides have filed FIRs against each other at Rajnagar police station, and extra forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, police said, adding that no one has been arrested so far.
