As many as 14 foreign nationals were today nabbed from different parts of the city for allegedly overstaying in the country after the expiry of their visas, the police said.

"Police teams conducted surprise checks and caught 14 foreigners. Out of them, five are Sudan nationals, four are from Yemen, two each are from Somalia and Kenya while one is a Tanzanian," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Commissioner's Task Force) B Limba Reddy said.

Most of them came to India on student visas, he said, adding that the visa of the Yemeni had expired in 2009.

"Police found that most of the house owners who rented out their houses/flats to the foreigners are not informing about their stay to the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO)," the DCP said.

Police have apprised FRRO for taking further action, Reddy added.
