Two persons riding a motorbike were arrested for allegedly assaulting a traffic sergeant of Kolkata Police in the southern part of the city today, police said.
The incident happened at around 2.30 PM at Bhowanipore under Kalighat police station when traffic sergeant Abhishek Ghosh stopped a bike after it jumped a red signal.
The two riders of the bike who were allegedly drunk started quarrelling with Ghosh when the policeman asked them to get down from the vehicle, police said.
They hit him on his chest after which bystanders stopped them and informed Kalighat police station who arrested the two.
Ghosh was taken to a nearby medical facility and was released after primary treatment.
