230 bar dancers "rescued" in Bangalore

As many as 230 women, being used by some city hotels for offering "unauthorised dance entertainment" to customers, have been rescued by police.

The women, hailing from different parts of the country including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi besides Karnataka, were rescued during raids conducted on seven hotels in the busy Gandhinagar and Majestic areas of the city yesterday, police said.

More than two dozen people, including the owners and supervisors of the establishments, were arrested for allegedly running "discotheques" and "livebands" with loudspeakers without the permission of authorities.
