Nearly 25 children were found to be suffering from measles in the Lohanagar area of Rajkot city, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) health department said here today.

The children were between the age-group of five months to eight years and are being treated by the RMC health team, the official said.

The outbreak of the disease came to light after a private practioner observed that the number of measles patients had increased during last couple of days, which he informed the RMC health department, sources said.

"We formed nine teams which started a door-to-door campaign and surveyed the area," RMC deputy health officer P P Rathod said.

"As many as 654 houses were covered in the survey, while over 3000 people, most of them who were children, were administered the measles vaccine", he said.
