3 killed, 22 injured as strong gale hits east China

Three persons were killed and 22 others injured today after a strong gale struck east China's Jiangsu Province, officials said.

The strong gale hit Funing County, Yancheng city, with a detected maximum speed of 110 km per hour, the county's meteorological observatory said.

A pedestrian was hit by a falling advertisement board and died in the hospital in Wuxi city.

In Funing, gale-triggered accidents left two dead and 22 others injured, a county publicity official told state-run Xinhua news agency.

The deceased included a tower crane operator who died after the crane collapsed. Rescue work is underway.
