Nine persons were killed and 5 others injured today when lightning struck a temple where they were taking shelter during rain at Shyampur in Howrah district, police said.
They died on the spot this noon when lightning hit them at Kolia village in the district, they said.
These residents of Ghoshpur and nearby villages came to work for a project under MGNREGA at Kolia, police said, adding that the injured people have been admitted to Uluberia Hospital.
