Abhishek Banerjee road mishap: Forensic experts visit spot

A day after TMC MP and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, was injured in a road mishap, a team of forensic experts today visited the accident site near on National Highway 2.

The team collected broken glasses, examined the paints on the surface of the truck with which Abhishek Banerjee's car collided while returning to after a public meeting in Murshidabad district.

Police today registered attempt to and conspiracy case against unknown persons in connection with the mishap involving Banerjee, the All Youth president.

Sections under the Act were also added in the case, a senior officer of the CID said.

Though nobody was detained in the incident, a few persons, mainly eyewitnesses, were today questioned by the CID, the officer said.

Sources in the CID said reconstruction of the entire incident would be done to evaluate "who was responsible for the mishap".

The Chief Minister visited the nursing home, where Abhishek is under going treatment, towards the afternoon.

Senior party leader Manas Bhuniya, who recently joined the TMC from the was accompanying Abhishek, said that his own vehicle was behind the TMC MP's convoy.

According to the medical bulletin of Abhishek Banerjee, issued in the evening, the MRI report confirmed "orbital floor fracture".

At present the MP is under strict observation of the 14-member medical board. Any decision on surgical intervention will be made as soon as the acute swellings subside.
