Apollo Hospital to set up Skill Development Centre

Apollo MedSkills, formed in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is setting up a centre in Shillong for improving skills of doctors and nursing professionals and skill courses for paramedicals and hospital support staff, Apollo MedSkills CEO K Prabhakar told PTI at the sideline of a CII-sponsored NE career and skills expo here.

Apollo MedSkills has taken a differentiated approach by adopting innovative teaching methodologies to make healthcare education more practically relevant and impart job specific skills that will make the Indian healthcare professional a part of the much sought after global work force, he said.

In Meghalaya, the courses will commence from early February/March next year and the government has agreed to provide necessary space, he said.

 

The Apollo official said the two courses in Meghalaya will be held in classrooms besides through video-conferencing medium with technical support from other hospitals of the group.

While the first course is for doctors and nurses, the second would be for class XII-passed students who are keen to pursue in paramedical courses.

The domestic supply of human resources for the next ten years in Meghalaya is estimated to be 6.51 lakh as against the local demand of only 2.49 lakh, the NSDC report said.
