The Uttarakhand government today decided to entrust Bhagirathi Development Authority with the task of regulating construction along the banks of the river Ganga in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar to discuss regulation of construction on the banks of the river, an official release here said.
It was decided to vest the BDA with all the powers under the Flood Zoning Act to conduct a scientific study of the distance between the banks of the mighty river and settlements along them and submit its report on regulation of the constructions within three months, it said.

The study will be carried out right from where the river originates in the Himalayas to Luksar in Haridwar district, it said.
The chief secretary also issued directives to stop illegal construction being carried out along the banks of different rivers in the state by strictly implementing the provisions of the Flood Zoning Act framed by the state government.
