Screenwriter Christina Hodson has replaced Joss Whedon for DC's "Batgirl" movie.

"Batgirl" will portray the life of Barbara Gordon, the daughter of police commissioner James Gordon, who doubles as one of Batman's sidekicks named Batgirl.

This will mark Hodson's return to the DC Extended Universe after writing for The WB series "Birds of Prey," reported Variety.

Whedon left the comic book movie in February, citing story issues. After his departure, author Roxane Gay volunteered to write the script and seemed to ignite interest from DC Comics.

Hodson has also been tapped to write the script for "Bumblebee," the upcoming "Transformers"spin-off starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena.
