PWD Officials have taken up cleaning of a 400-metre stretch of Cauvery river and its banks here to ensure hastle-free celebration of August 3 Aadi Perukku festival by the locals.
As per the government's order, PWD today commenced the cleaning work at a cost of Rs five lakh from Mela Cauvery to Old Palakkarai, officials said.
The steps in the banks would be renovated and the river cleaned before Aadi Perukku. It would help people to take bath in the river and offer prayers, they added.
