Congress leaders today visited the family of local SAD leader Mukhjit Singh, who was killed in police firing earlier this week, and demanded the state government to provide job and financial assistance to his kin.
The leaders, led by District Congress Committee Rural President Gurjeet Singh Aujla, met the family and friends of 38-year-old Mukhjit at his house in Verka here and expressed sympathy with them.
Earlier this week, a Punjab police team had shot dead Mukhjit, a SAD youth activist, claiming that they mistook him for a wanted gangster.
