Constable suspended on charges of harassment in UP

A constable was today suspended for allegedly harassing, charging high interest rates and extorting money from an auto-driver, police said here.

The accused, identified as Krishna Prakash, posted at the Vijay Nagar police station was suspended for allegedly harassing and extorting money from auto-driver Neeraj Rathi, police PRO Subodh Saxena said.

Prakash had lent Rs 10,000 to Rathi and used to charge high interest rates on the amount. Later, he employed Rathi to drive his autorickshaw to repay the loan along with the interest, police said.

Rathi was also assaulted and threatened by the constable of implicating him in frivolous cases when he wanted to quit the job, police said.
 

Following a complaint by the victim, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharmendra Singh ordered an enquiry into the matter to discover that the allegations levelled against him were correct, police said.

A case has been registered against Prakash under sections 323, 504 and 384 of IPC, police said.
