Couple, accomplice arrested for extortion

Three persons including a woman were arrested today for allegedly extorting large sum of money from a man by implicating him in false charges of rape and abduction in Baran district.

Mohan Lal Dhakar (30), his wife Seema and their accomplice Gajendra Singh (45) were arrested from Atru town for extorting about Rs seven lakhs from Mahaveer Dhakar (50) on pretext of compromise in a false rape case that Seema had lodged eight months ago, Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Channu Pathan said.

He said the couple had recently fabricated another false abduction story and lodged a complaint in Atru police station on July 12.
 

The accused were produced before a local court that sent them to judicial custody till August 15.

Mahaveer, a farmer, approached police on last Friday and lodged a complaint against the trio, the ASI said.
