Crude oil futures on Wednesday fell by Rs 29 to Rs 3,972 per barrel after participants reduced positions tracking a subdued trend in global markets.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in December dropped by Rs 29, or 0.72 per cent, to Rs 3,972 per barrel with a business volume of 24,415 lots.
For the January delivery, crude oil was quoting lower by Rs 30, or 0.74 per cent, at Rs 3,981 per barrel in 308 lots.
Analysts said the fall in crude oil futures was mostly due to trimming of positions by traders amid weak global cues.
Globally, West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading 0.16 per cent lower at USD 55.12 per barrel.
Meanwhile, Brent Crude, the international benchmark slipped 0.26 per cent to trade at USD 60.75 per barrel in New York.
