Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today lambasted UPA government over corruption issue alleging that it had "siphoned off money" by indulging in various scandals.

"I have lost the count of money Congress has siphoned off by indulging in various scams in the last decade," Dhumal, who was here to campaigning for BJP's candidate Chandigarh candidate Kirron Kher, said.

He also derided the UPA over the beheadingo of Indian soldiers and said India needed a strong leader to tackle Pakistan, in an apparent indication of support for Narendra Modi, BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

"Our soldiers were mercilessly beheaded by the Pakistanis, but it could not move the UPA government. Instead of taking strong action, Pakistan's prime minister was welcomed by none less than the foreign minister Salman Khurshid at Jaipur," he said.

"We need a prime minister who can tackle these troubles being posed by our neighbouring country. India does not need a PM who remains a mere spectator to serious issues," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Kirron praised the Gujarat model of development and said BJP would ensure basic facilities for all.

"It is possible to replicate Gujarat's development in Chandigarh. Our party will work towards ensuring the basic facilities like uninterrupted electricity and clean water. We will also bring industry which will generate employment and reduce inflation," she said.
