Digital literacy among Dalit women a key aim, says Telecom Min

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said that his one of highly desired objectives is to see Dalit women operating e-commerce in a Dalit village.

"The highest day of my life as an IT Minister is when in a Dalit village Dalit women become digitally literate and run a proper common service centre with computers in their hands and operate in e-commerce," Prasad said that at an e-commerce conclave here.

The minister said that government is looking to spread broadband connectivity across all panchayats by 2017 to reach out to under privileged masses and bring them in mainstream of society.
 

"We are looking connect 50,000 village panchayats by March, another 1 lakh by March 2016 and the rest by March 2017. This will not only bridge digital divide between urban and rural but will also boost digital services in villages. This will also boots e-commerce in the country," Prasad said.

"E-commerce should leverage upon ... Aspiring India by delivery quality goods and services. Success of e-commerce will ride on quality and credible standards," Prasad said.
