Din in Maha Assembly over Patil's remarks; House adjourned

Press Trust of India Nagpur

The Opposition disrupted the Question Hour and moved into the well of the House, prompting Deputy Speaker Vasant Purke to adjourn the House three times, for 15 minutes twice and for an hour later.

When the proceedings began and the Chair called for the Question Hour, Opposition Leader Eknath Khadse immediately demanded an apology from Patil for his "threats" to the Opposition benches yesterday during the Point of Procedure over NCP leader Ajit Pawar holding the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

R R Patil had said that his party was ready to take on Opposition anywhere, whether it is in the House or on streets, irked the Opposition, who demanded an apology from him.

Khadse said it was shocking that Home Minister was "threatening the Opposition, treating them as terrorists and criminals."

Khadse alleged that there was a threat to his life from the police, since Patil holds the Home portfolio.

Other BJP legislators, including Girish Bapat, Devendra Phadanvis, started shouting slogans against Patil demanding an apology and trooped to the well of the House, following which, it was adjourned twice.

Patil, who was present in the House, refused to apologise and said after Shiv Sena's "utter failure" to bring in no-trust move against the government, the Opposition was looking for some other excuses.

This further angered the Opposition members, who started raising slogans once again, which prompted Purke to finally adjourn the House for an hour.
