Elaborate security arrangements have been made in and around Aizawl city to ensure peaceful celebrations of Christmas and New Year festivals, Aizawl district SP Lalhuliana Fanai today said.
Fanai told PTI that night foot patrolling between 6 PM and 5 AM began from Friday night last by teams of armed and unarmed policemen in Aizawl across all police stations.
He said mobile checking of drivers was conducted to prevent drunken drivers from driving buses, maxi-cabs and taxis.

Three police helplines were established at the New Market Area to help people during Christmas shopping.
SPs and Commandants were detailed on a rotation basis to oversee the security arrangements every night, he added.

In the evening, security was increased around the Karbala in south Delhi's Jor Bagh area after some people some agitation was reported in the area.
"Some persons were trying to enter the premises with a tempo full of tiles. A police team stopped them as no construction is allowed there in pursuant to a High Court order," an official said.
This led to an argument but the matter was settled.
Security remained heightened there in view of law and order issues in the past, the official added.
