There has been decline in the number of stray cattle and monkeys caught by the civic body in north Delhi in the last four years, according to figures shared by the municipal corporation today.
The matter came up for discussion during the meeting of the Standing Committee of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) today. Leader of the Congress in the BJP-ruled NDMC, Mukesh Goel, had raised some questions on this matter earlier and the response was to his queries.
According to the data shared during the meeting, 3,428 cattle were caught in the year 2014-15 while in 2017-18 only 2,878 were impounded.
The number of monkeys caught in 2014-15 was 438 which came down to 84 in 2017-18, it said.
However, in 2014-15 and the year after that the number of cattle caught rose, with the figures being 3,408 and 4,373 respectively. The number of monkeys caught in these periods were 297 and 68 respectively.

The number of dogs caught in the last four years, however, have risen up. The figures are -- 6,746 (2014-15); 6,489 (2015-16); 9,866 (2016-17); and 21,035 (2017-18).
Goel alleged that the corporation was "not doing enough" to curb the menace of stray animals.
On his query on number of deaths occurring in north Delhi after being hit by stray cattle or bitten by dogs or other animals, the NDMC in its response said, "In 2015-16, there were 14 deaths and in 2016-17, at least five people had died."
The response also said that anti-rabies vaccine was out of stock.
According to the NDMC, over 11,000 dog-bite cases were reported in 2017 by various hospitals and dispensaries in north Delhi.
