Activists of some Hindu outfits today allegedly thrashed three farmers whom they suspected of taking animals in a vehicle for slaughtering.

The activists of the Shiv Sena and the VHP intercepted the vehicle, carrying the animals, near a police station here.

Suspecting the three Bhatinda-based farmers were taking the animals in the vehicle for the purpose of slaughtering, they allegedly thrashed them.

Police immediately reached the scene and prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn.

Police said the farmers were heading towards Fatehgarh Sahib with the animals to participate in a fair.

No case was registered against the right-wing activists as they apologised to the farmers for their act, police said.
