An FIR was today lodged against three doctors of a private hospital in Kaushambi here for allegedly cheating and overcharging a patient.

The FIR has been lodged against Sudhir Tyagi, Vikram Grover and A P Singh under sections 420 (cheating) and 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the IPC, Superintendent of Police (City) Salman Taj Patil said.

The FIR was lodged after an inquiry was carried out against the hospital on the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) based on a complaint filed by Amit Tyagi.

Tyagi said that his father Yashveer Singh Tyagi, a retired Air Force officer, was admitted to the hospital in May last year for treatment of kidney-related ailments.

In his complaint to the CMO, he alleged that they were forced to buy medicines from the medical store of the hospital despite his father being entitled to get all facilities and treatment as well as medicines free of cost under the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECSH).

He also alleged that the doctors treating his father "extorted" money from them. Later, the ex-serviceman was shifted to another hospital and he passed away on February 8 this year.
