Five contractual employees attempt suicide in J&K

In a shocking way of protest, five contractual employees allegedly attempted suicide today by consuming poison in support of their demand for regularisation of their services in the government in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

All of them were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu and are undergoing treatment.

Five people, who were on a contractual job in Municipality in Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine, and were on protest against the government's failure to regularise their services, allegedly consumed some poisonous substances today to press the government for their regularisation, a police officer said.
 

They were immediately rushed to GMC hospital Jammu for medical treatment, he said.

The doctors attending on them said that they are under treatment as they have taken some poisonous substance.

Several daily wagers and contractual employees are on protest against the government's failure to regularise their services after they have completed seven years of period mandatory for their confirmation as regular government employees.
