The Goa Tourism department has embarked on a quest for a 'burly' man, who would symbolically head the state for the upcoming Carnival celebrations.

The department has invited applications from persons with a well-built physique and charisma to be the next 'King Momo'.

King Momo is a mythological figure who rules the state for four days from February 6-9. He would be heading the float parades organised by the Tourism department in the cities of Panaji, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa.

"We are receiving a good response. We have formed a panel to select the right person," said Nilesh Cabral, Chairman, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC).

The last date for accepting the applications is January 25, he said.

The state has already begun promotion of the festival.

The state Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has said that about four lakh tourists are expected to arrive for the festival.
