Gold bars worth Rs 2.50 Cr seized from air passenger

Customs officials at the airport here today seized 7.9 kilograms of gold bars, estimated to be worth Rs 2.50 crore, and arrested one person, an official release said.

The officials of the Air Intelligence wing intercepted a 24-year-old passenger, Umar Syed, upon his arrival from Dubai after noticing his suspicious movement through the aero-bridge corridor today, an official release said.

During searches, 68 units of gold bars with 24 karat purity, weighing 7.9 kgs, were found concealed in his backpack. The gold bars were worth

Rs 2.50 crore and were seized under the provisions of Customs Act, the release said.

The passenger was arrested and further investigation is underway, it added.
