A government doctor was today caught red-handed by Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Police for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 to conduct surgery of a hernia patient.

Acting on a tip-off that Dr Mithilesh Choube has demanded Rs 10,000 from the patient Pannu Patel of Kalva village for carrying out his surgery, police laid a trap and caught him from his official residence in the hospital premises taking Rs 5,000 as bribe, Lokayukta Inspector, P K Chaturvedi told reporters.

Patel had already given Rs 5,000 to the doctor earlier.

A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against Choube in this regard, he added.
