The Madras High Court today directed police authorities to allow Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam to hold "Nathigar Vizha Procession" (atheist propagation procession) on February seven.
Justice T S Sivagnanam, before whom a petition by Chennai District Treasurer of the Kazhagam, Dilipan has come up, directed the police authorities to consider the petitioner's application submitted on January 21 for grant of permission and pass appropriate orders by tomorrow by permitting the procession.
The Judge also directed the petitioners to reduce the length of the procession route by about 1.5 kms and recorded the undertaking given by the organization that no untoward incident will occur, public disturbance will not be caused, no shouting of slogans and no loud speakers will be used.

The counsel for the organization submitted that there was slackness in the propagation of ideologies of Thanthai Periyar in Tamil Nadu and many of the youngsters do not know the life history of Periyar the reformation made by him and his ideologies.
Hence they want to celebrate his thoughts as "atheist function".
