HC requests Acharya to assist the court

Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar requested Acharya, who is also a member of the Central Law Commission to assist the court in the case, when the petitions filed by Jayalalithaa and three other accused in the case came up and Acharya stated that he had resigned from the post of SPP last week.
Acharya agreed to the request.
On July 30, the High Court ordered issue of emergent notices to the Law Secretary, Registrar General of the High Court, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption and Presiding officer of the Special Court in petitions filed by three other accused in the case.
Subsequently Jayalalithaa also filed a similar petition on July 14.
The petitions filed by Jayalalithaa, her close aide Sasikala Natarajan, her estranged foster son V Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi sought a quo warranto against Special Judge B M Mallikarjunaiah trying the case and a writ of declaration declaring his appointment as the Special Judge as "null and void".
The court the adjourned the matter to August 28 for the government to file its objections.
