Considering their rich nutrition aspects, all the hidden information in millets should be unearthed, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice Chancellor Dr K Ramasamy said today.
Opportunities in the millet processing and value addition were aplenty and it should be explored through interdisciplinary research, he said inaugurating a summer school on millets here.
As the millet production was shrinking in the last 12 years, the varsity with the support of the state government took up initiatives to produce millet seeds and made it available to the farmers in time and motivated them to cultivate millets.
This had paid rich dividend and the production increased considerably to reach 122.8 tonnes, in the last two years, he claimed.
