Himachal reels under heat wave, Una sizzles at 44.8 deg C

Una in the Shivalik foothills recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 44.8 degrees Celsius.
While capital Shimla recorded a high of 30.4 degrees Celsius, over 6 degrees above normal, Sundernagar simmered at 40.8 deg C, Nahan 38.5 deg C, Bhunter 37.5 deg C, Dharamshala 37.2 deg C and Solan 36.4, four to six degrees above normal.
Mid-hill areas in the state, however, got some respite from the heat as the mercury dropped marginally due to precipitation.
Some areas also witnessed a drop in night temperatures, caused by a brief spell of light rains. Nahan recorded a night temperature of 21.0 degrees Celsius, while Una, Solan and Dharamsala showed a low of 26.6 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region during the next 72 hours.
