India, Spain to encourage joint R&D effort in renewable energy

After a meeting between New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah and Spain's Minister of State for Research Development and Innovation Carmen Vela Olmo, both the countries agreed to initiate a "second call" for proposals to encourage joint research and development between research institutions as well as industry groups.
They also agreed to consider financing research projects in the area of forecasting of wind power and fabrication of cost effective solar cells, said a government statement.
Olmo is currently on a three-day visit to India leading a Spanish delegation.
The joint Indo-Spanish programme for technological cooperation in renewable energy was developed last year following Abdullah's visit to Spain last year.
Following the signing of the agreement in May, 2012, a joint call for project proposals was published.
