"The administration seems to be insensitive to the concerns of the people. Tall claims of providing every facility to the people of the state are made by the government while the administration is standstill on the ground," State Secretary of CPI (M) M Y Tarigami said in a statement here.

The CPI (M) leader alleged that people of the valley had been left helpless and devoid of basic amenities, especially the power and cooking gas, adding that "the same situation is being repeated every winter."

Condemning police excesses on people protesting against unscheduled power cuts and shortage of cooking gas in Pulwama district town yesterday, Tarigami asked the government to be responsive to the genuine concerns of the people and not to allow the police to handle such issues with force and browbeating.

Tarigami described the police action as "unfortunate and uncalled for" and said "force tactics only complicates issues and compels the protesters to adopt more confrontationist path."
