Jharkhand has managed to cover around 87 per cent of its rural population under the Food Security Act as against the national average of 75 per cent, according to the state's Economic Survey 2015-16.
"This implies that Jharkhand has made enormous progress in terms of the coverage of its population under NFSA... rural-urban distribution reveals (coverage of) about 2,16,67,627 or 86.48 per cent of rural population (against national average of 75 per cent).
"And 47,75,703 or 60.20 per cent of urban population (against national average of 50 per cent) in the state," the survey said.

The PDS, it said, also operated through several other schemes, including 370 centres under Dal-Bhaat Yojna.
The department has also initiated the distribution of free LPG to about one lakh poorest BPL families, it said, adding to improve the financial condition of the fair prise shop owners, the state has decided to increase the commission from Rs 45 paise per quintal to 80 paise a quintal, it said.
Meanwhile, Food and Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Saryu Roy today said pulses and grams would be added to the PDS this year.
He said Salt had already been added.

Meanwhile, the Legislature Party leader of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), Pradip Yadav, said "Only 50 per cent of the covered people are getting ration."
He also alleged that there were anomalies during the distribution of ration cards with three/four cards being issued to the same individual in several cases.
