Responding to an appeal by indigent and ailing Tamil folk singer-cum-actress Paravai Muniamma, AIADMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter Jayalalithaa today announced an assistance of Rs six lakh and a monthly payout of Rs 6,000 to her from a party-run trust.
The trust would also bear the expenditure for the medical treatment of the 72-year-old Muniamma, hospitalised in Madurai for some health issues some days ago.
An AIADMK Headquarters release here said Jayalalithaa announced the relief from the "Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Trust."
The folk singer, who had acted in several Tamil films, had in a recent media interview stated that Jayalalithaa alone could redeem her and her family from trying financial circumstances, the release said.
