JD-U for discussion in LS on flight of NE people from B'lore

"It is the responsibility of the central and state governments to identify such rumour mongers and teach them a lesson....We will be giving a notice to the Speaker tomorrow to discuss the issue," JD-U president Sharad Yadav told PTI.

At least 6,800 people from the northeast left Bangalore last night by special trains as rumours spread about attacks targeting the community.

The panic-struck flight of the people continued for the second day today even as Karnataka government assured them safety and launched confidence-building measures, including police patrolling in areas largely inhabited by them.

Describing the North East as the "crown" of India, Yadav said all efforts should be taken to ensure that the peace loving people of the region are not harassed and tough action should be taken against those spreading the rumours.

 

Congress general secretary B K Hariprasad, who hails from Karnataka, saw a "big political conspiracy" and the "people of the Sangh Parivar" to be behind the rumour driven flight of the northeastern people from Bangalore.

"The Sangh Parviar people are behind these rumours. Such a thing cannot happen otherwise in a cosmopolitan city like Bangalore. It's a big conspiracy for political gains," he asserted.

Hariprasad said it was a "strange thing" for the Karnataka capital and "there are people, who are trying to take advantage of the situation, who need to be identified and dealt with".
