Hundreds of journalists staged a protest here today against the superintendent of police for sending a scribe of a vernacular newspaper to jail after allegedly falsely implicating him in a rape case.

Journalists under the banner of District Mediapersons Welfare Association staged the dharna and submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Anupam Kumar against the SP for allegedly falsely implicating the scribe and sending him to jail.

They also sought the SP R K Mishra's transfer.

Association president Ravindra Singh claimed that the police after being taken to task by State Human Rights Commission in the rape case arrested the scribe and send him to jail in anger.

The victim had named the scribe in her statement on the alleged rape a fortnight ago. But she sat with mediapersons during their protest against the scribe's arrest.
