Press Trust of India Kolkata
West Bengal Law Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya today told the Assembly that the Kamduni rape incident of 2013 was a shame and many such equally shameful incidents had taken place during the erstwhile Left Front rule.

The minister was replying to CPI-M member Anisur Rahaman's query about why the culprits in the case were not punished even after two years.

On 7 June 2013, a 20-year-old college student was allegedly abducted, gangraped and murdered in Kamduni, near Barasat, about 20 km from Kolkata.

Not only Kamduni, similar such incidents had occurred during the erstwhile LF rule at Bantala, Dhantala and Ghoksadanga, she said, adding, that the case was sub-judice now and a chargesheet and supplementary chargesheet had been filed in the case.

She said that since the case was not under the jurisdiction of the state government, it could not give any assurance on the issue, but pointed out that nobody had raised any question on the issue so far before the state government.
