As part of efforts to ensure timely implementation of different schemes in rural areas, the administration in Odisha's Koraput district has launched a model panchayat programme.

"All government schemes meant for rural areas will be timely implemented in the panchayat," said Koraput district Collector Jaya Kumar V.

The programme was launched at Kenduguda in Maoist-hit Boipariguda block of the tribal-dominated district on Friday. The launch is part of the district administration's plan to convert one panchayat each in the 14 blocks into a model panchayat, officials said.

Latrines will be constructed in all households of the panchayat under Swach Bharat Mission, efforts will be made to arrest infant mortality rate, maternity mortality rate and school dropout rate, the Collector said.

On the occasion of launching of the programme, the administration included 36 new beneficiaries under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana and open bank accounts for 38 people under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

Also, work orders worth Rs 97 lakh were issued to applicants under MGNREGA.

"Priority will be given to various livelihood programmes, social security schemes, construction of roads, electrification of villages and safe drinking water facilities. Houses and land pattas under the Forest Rights Act will also be distributed among the beneficiaries," the collector said.

Officials said a special team of officials had been formed which will check the progress of works of the panchayat at regular intervals.
