Lankan court extends remand of TN fishermen to July 11

A in has extended to July 11 the remand of the eight fishermen from Tamil Nadu, detained by the island nation's naval personnel on June 15.

"The at Mannar has extended upto July 11, the remand of the eight fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Naval personnel on June 15," U Arulanandam, president of Pamban fishermen's organisation told reporters here today.

The fishermen, hailing from this coastal town, were fishing near Katchateevu on June 15 when Sri Lankan Navy personnel surrounded their boat and arrested them.

They were later produced at the in Mannar, which ordered that they be lodged in prison till today, Arulanandam said.

Mannar court magistrate Aanandhi Kanagarathnam ordered extension of their remand till July 11, he added.
