A local court today sentenced a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee to 11 years rigorous imprisonment for attempting to smuggle explosives.
Saundirarajan, a native of Matha Malai in Sri Lanka, was staying at the refugee camp at K K Nagar in Tiruchirappalli.
On March 18, 2012, the 'Q' branch police of Nagapattinam district arrested him during a vehicle check as he was allegedly possessing gelatine sticks, detonators and a satellite phone. He had also reportedly planned to smuggle them to Sri Lanka.

Saundirarajan was also allegedly making arrangements to facilitate illegal migration of Sri Lankan refugees to Australia.
Pronouncing the judgment, Nagapattinam Chief Judicial Magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000.
The 'Q' branch deals with extremist activities.
