Leopardess captured after creating panic for two days

A leopardess, which had entered Chhawani area here two days ago, was today captured by forest officials.

The leopardess was captured at 11 AM from the godown of JCO mess of Army in the Cantonment area, where it was hiding since last morning, SSP D K Dubey said.

The feline, about 2-years-old, had injured six persons including a doctor when he tried to tranquilise it with a dart gun, forest official H K Awasthi said.

He said the wild cat will be released in the forests of Shivalik in Saharanpur district, after being treated.

The paw of the leopardess was injured by a sharp object while trying to jump over the wall of the Army hospital.
 

It was spotted near the Army hospital in the Cantonment area on Tuesday. Army jawans had informed senior officials of the presence of the leopard in human settlements following which police and forest officials rushed to the spot.

A team of experts from Kanpur zoo, Delhi's national park and other places had come here to capture it.

The locals here were in a state of panic. Schools and colleges were closed as a safety measure.
